Student Performance and Choreography

A full theatrical performance including both student and faculty choreography will be held Friday, July 30th at 8:00 p.m. in the Charlotte Irey Studio Theatre. Tech rehearsal is Sunday, July 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; Dress rehearsal is held Wednesday, July 28th starting at 8:30 p.m. with a meeting at 8:15 p.m.

Students wishing to be involved in the student production must register for one or more of the Performance Track classes described below. Another option is to perform in student-choreographed pieces.

Performance Track Information

Choreo-Feedback is designed to give choreographic feedback to student choreographers. Students enrolled in the Choreo-Feedback class are eligible to submit choreography for the student performance. During the 2nd class meeting, dance pieces will be adjudicated after which the dances selected for the performance will be announced. During the 2nd week, this class will focus on making sure dances are performance-ready. If a dance is not accepted for the performance, pro-rated tuition will be refunded (for the 2nd week of classes). Note that if two or more students plan to co-choreograph a dance, both or all should register.

In Repertory Class (jazz, lyrical jazz, modern, hip hop/funk) students will learn, rehearse, and perform a piece taught by a faculty member. Level Placement is required for Modern and Jazz Repertory. Level Placement is not required for Hip Hop/Funk Repertory, but participants must be at least Level II. An Audition is required for Lyrical Jazz Repertory. This audition will be part of Jazz Level Placement.

Jazz Repertory students are required to also register for either Noon Jazz or Lyrical Jazz.

Lyrical Jazz Repertory students are required to also register for Lyrical Jazz.

Modern Repertory students are required to also register for Modern Technique (MWF).

Hip Hop/Funk Repertory students are required to also register for Hip Hop or Jazz Funk.

Priority Admittance Into Performance Track Classes:
Until May 1st we will only admit full-time students* into Performance Track classes. Part-time students will be wait-listed for their Performance Track classes until May 1st. After May 1st, all students will have equal priority for Performance Track classes.

Interweave Dance Theatre
Founded in 1980 as the Boulder Jazz Dance Company, IDT changed its name in 1995 to better reflect the diversity of the work it presents: not only jazz dance, but also modern dance and theatre pieces. Interweave Dance Theatre (IDT) is the resident performing company of the Workshop. Company members (seen in photos) attend Level III BJDW classes, providing inspiration to students. Many of the BJDW faculty members perform with IDT.

IDT dancers for 2011 will be auditioned during the 2010 workshop in classes and the BJDW Student performance. Auditions will take place during the Level III Noon Jazz class. To qualify students must be enrolled in Noon Jazz, need to participate in the student performance (through repertory class or Choreo-Feedback), and must be placed in Level III. If we hold another audition it will be for local dancers only. We will announce by the end of March if we will be holding local auditions.
